Frisco's Theme Park Has an Off-Season. Here's How Locals Can Read the Universal Kids Calendar.

October 15, 2026

How many times does a family that lives ten minutes from a theme park actually go? For most Frisco households with young kids, Universal Kids Resort settled one question when it opened at 1 Universal Parkway on July 1, 2026. It now sits close enough for a weeknight visit. The harder question is which weeknights. Universal runs the park on a seasonal calendar, and the closures are long ones. On the official annual pass page, the park closes to all guests on paired weekdays in November, on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, and for most of the stretch from mid-January through February 2027.

Ticket prices get most of the attention, but for a family that lives here, the calendar decides what a pass is worth. The months ahead are where those two things meet.

The closure list, read as a local

Universal posts the closures as one list. It reads more usefully when you set each date against the day of the week it falls on.

Month Park closed to all guests What that leaves open
November 2026 3–4, 10–11, 17–18, 26 Every weekend. Closures fall on Tuesday and Wednesday pairs, plus Thanksgiving Thursday
December 2026 25 Everything except Christmas Day
January 2027 6–8, 11–14, 19–31 Jan. 1–5, the weekend of Jan. 9–10, and Friday Jan. 15 through Monday Jan. 18
February 2027 1–11, 17–19, 22–26 Friday Feb. 12 through Tuesday Feb. 16, the weekend of Feb. 20–21, and Feb. 27–28
March 2027 2–3 All but one Tuesday and Wednesday
April 2027 6–7, 13–14, 20–21 Weekends and most weekdays
August 2027 17–18, 24–25, 31 Weekends and most weekdays

The pattern is easy to see on a calendar. From Jan. 19 through Feb. 11, the park has no open days at all, and the rest of February opens mostly in short weekend clusters. The open January block lines up with Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend, and the mid-February block takes in the Presidents' Day weekend. Universal has not given a reason for any of these closures. A family-travel guide that tracks the 2027 schedule says the company hasn't tied individual dates to weather, school calendars or maintenance. Universal also says the dates can change and that it may add or remove closures.

For a family that pictures the park as a standing Tuesday-afternoon plan, those November Tuesdays and the long winter gap mean fewer chances to go. For a family that mostly goes on weekends, November costs almost nothing.

Fall hours moved later, and that changed who can go after work

Opening-season hours worked against working parents. Visit Frisco's July 1 guide listed 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on most weekdays and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Universal then rewrote the back half of the year. On Aug. 25, Diservations reported that most fall Fridays, which had been set to close at 5 p.m., would stay open until 7 p.m. The same report said November and December would bring the park's first 9 p.m. closings and several noon openings.

From that report, the stretch through New Year's looks like this:

  • Thanksgiving week: open until 8 p.m. most days, with doors opening at noon. Closed on Thanksgiving Day.
  • Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., the longest days of the year until the holidays.
  • December weekdays before school breaks: noon openings, with the park open until 8 p.m. most weekdays.
  • First week of winter break: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • After Christmas Day: open until 9 p.m.

A noon-to-8 December weekday gives a family that leaves work at 5:30 more than two hours of evening park time, which a 5 p.m. close never did. Universal's own calendar and hours page shows hours only one date at a time, so check the exact day before you go.

Where the Silver pass blockouts land

This is where the calendar starts to change the pass math. Universal sells three annual passes: Silver at $129.99, Silver with Parking at $164.99 and Gold at $199.99. Both Silver passes carry blockout dates. Gold has none.

For the rest of 2026, the Silver blockouts fall on Saturday, Oct. 17; Saturday, Oct. 24; Saturday, Oct. 31; Saturday, Dec. 12; and the weekend of Dec. 19–20, then run straight through Dec. 26–30. Put those dates next to the Diservations schedule and you get the season's main tension. The post-Christmas days that stay open until 9 p.m. are the days Silver holders can't use. Halloween Saturday and the last three Saturdays of October are blocked too, right in the middle of the park's first Halloween season.

That season is a light one by most accounts. An on-site report from Family Quest Central, last updated Oct. 5, says Halloween programming began Oct. 2. It includes Universal Monster Tots: Superfan Spooktacular, six "Trick for Treat" stations, Halloween games, a seasonal dance procession and a giant pumpkin in the Isle of Curiosity. The same report found the activities included with regular admission, concentrated in the Isle of Curiosity, with no Halloween decor in the other lands during its visits. For Silver holders, the open days of this overlay are October weekdays and Sundays.

Universal had not announced a 2026 holiday program as of this writing.

What the published prices add up to

Single-day admission starts at $49.99 plus tax, and two-day admission starts at $73.99 plus tax. Both vary by date, and the lowest prices are available only on select days. Visit Frisco's July guide listed the two-day ticket at $66.99, so prices have already moved once since opening.

Regular parking costs $20 plus tax per vehicle, Premium costs $30, and the lots are cashless. An NTTA TollTag works only for Regular Parking. With those figures, the arithmetic for each pass looks like this:

  1. Silver at $129.99. Three visits at the lowest one-day price come to $149.97 before tax, so the pass costs less than three single days even at the cheapest rate. Parking isn't included, so each visit adds $20.
  2. Silver with Parking at $164.99. This adds $35 over Silver and covers regular self-parking, which costs $20 per visit. By the second visit, the parking alone is worth more than the $35.
  3. Gold at $199.99. This adds $35 over Silver with Parking. It removes every blockout date and adds 10% off eligible food, beverage and merchandise, 10% off friends-and-family tickets bought at Guest Services, and $20 off Premium Parking.

Every pass covers one person for 12 months, starting the first time it's scanned at the park or used for parking. Children under 2 get in free, and everyone 2 and older needs admission.

There is no local discount to factor in. Universal's FAQ answers the question directly:

"Discounts based on Texas residency will not be available."

The parking page says the same for its parking products, with no resident, military or other discounts. So the extra $35 for Gold works as a price on dates. It buys the October Saturdays, the mid-December weekends and the run from Dec. 26 to 30, the same dates the later holiday hours make most appealing.

Getting there from the neighborhood side

Since June, the drive in has run through a new piece of road. The City of Frisco announced a new signal at Dallas Parkway, Fields Parkway and Universal Parkway, followed by a new connection between Fields Parkway and Universal Parkway under the Dallas North Tollway. It opened Thursday, June 4. East-west traffic crosses the Dallas Parkway frontage roads at a signal. The city's weekly roadwork roundup for Oct. 5 lists no projects in the Universal Parkway area.

The 300-room Universal Kids Resort Hotel uses a separate entrance at 5700 Panther Creek Parkway. It has a dedicated park entrance, and hotel guests with park admission get in one hour early. Overnight hotel parking is $20 per night and is billed separately from theme-park parking. Gold holders can ask for a free room upgrade at check-in, subject to availability. A family staying close to home over the holidays might use that.

Inside, there are seven lands to cover across those visits: DreamWorks' Shrek's Swamp, Jurassic World Adventure Camp, Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants Bikini Bottom, Illumination's Minions vs. Minions: Bello Bay Club, DreamWorks' TrollsFest, DreamWorks' Puss in Boots Del Mar and the Isle of Curiosity. A family that lives nearby can ride Jurassic World: Cretaceous Coaster one week and Shrek & Fiona's Happily Ogre After the next, as long as the date lands on an open day for their pass.

For the next three months, the most generous window for local families runs from November weekends through the noon-to-8 December weeknights, just before the park's holiday blockouts and its quiet January.

The value of a theme-park pass depends on which days you can actually use it, and a home works the same way. Its value depends on how a family lives there day to day, which is how Weidler Group presents Frisco homes.
