Downtown McKinney Does Halloween a Week Early. Here's How to Plan Your Saturday Around It.

October 22, 2026

At 8 a.m. this Saturday, Oct. 24, downtown McKinney starts serving pumpkin-themed coffee to people holding passports. By 5:40 p.m., the first group of 20 is walking into the Collin County History Museum for a ghost tour. Close to midnight, the last of the TUPPS Halloween Bash is wrapping up on East Louisiana Street. Halloween itself is still seven days away, but for the square, this Saturday is the big day.

The McKinney Main Street events calendar shows why. It lists five downtown entries on Oct. 24 and two on Oct. 31. The family events opened the season even earlier. McKinney Main Street's Trick or Treat Trail at Bonnie Wenk Park and Halloween at the Heard were both on Oct. 17, and so was the Día de los Muertos festival, which moved this year to TUPPS Brewery. If you're reading this Thursday, the kids' weekend has already passed, and the coming Saturday is downtown's main Halloween day.

Saturday, Oct. 24, hour by hour

Time Event Where Cost
8 a.m. to noon McKinney Farmers Market Chestnut Square, 315 S. Chestnut St. Regular Saturday market
8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Creepy Coffee Crawl Check-in at 111 N. Tennessee St. $42.42, all ages

7 p.m. to just before midnight TUPPS Halloween Bash TUPPS Brewery, 402 E. Louisiana St. Free

The morning works best on foot. The Creepy Coffee Crawl is self-guided, with stops at six downtown shops: Habitat Plants + Coffee, Filtered, Bresnan Bread & Pastry, Collective Coffee, Lelo's and Cafe LaFaye. When you check in, you get a map and passport, a tasting booklet and a discount card. Each stop pours a seasonal coffee tasting with treats. The listing says spots are limited and refunds are available until one day before the event. The crawl runs until 2 p.m. and the Chestnut Square farmers market closes at noon, so a crawl that ends on South Chestnut Street lets you finish with a market stop.

In the afternoon, downtown splits into two centers about a block and a half apart. At TUPPS, the free Fall Festival has bounce houses, face painting and live music from Dustin Perkins and Chaz Marie from 1 to 5 p.m. On the square, Roper Romp & Stanleys Too starts at The Pub. Participants visit downtown businesses from 2 to 4 p.m., then head back to The Pub for prizes and raffle drawings from 4 to 4:30. Costumes are encouraged but not required. The listing says the participating restaurants, boutiques, galleries and shops will be announced on Facebook.

The evening runs on a ticket you can't buy at the door

Every daytime event above lets you show up and decide on the spot. The Haunted History Ghost Tour does not. Visit McKinney's listing is direct about it:

PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD AT THE DOOR.

The museum's evening runs from 5 to 10 p.m., but tour entry is timed. A new group goes in every 20 minutes from 5:40 to 9 p.m., and each group is capped at 20 guests. Starting at 5:40 and ending with a 9 p.m. entry gives 11 entry times, so about 220 people can take the tour all night, and the listing notes that a slot is gone once it sells out. Compare that with the TUPPS Bash a few blocks away, which is free with no admission limit listed.

The $25 ticket, for ages 12 and up, covers the Historic Lobby, Main Gallery, Research Room and the second-floor Archive Room, with performances and haunted stories drawn from McKinney and Collin County history. The $35 VIP ticket, for ages 21 and up, adds a drink ticket and access to a Basement Speakeasy with live music that stays open until 10 p.m. Costumes are encouraged, and costume prizes will be awarded.

If you're planning around the tour, book in this order:

  1. Pick your ghost tour entry time first. It's the only fixed-capacity event of the night, and your choice sets the rest of your evening.
  2. Plan dinner around that slot. An early entry means dinner after. A slot at 8 p.m. or later means you'll eat first.
  3. Finish at TUPPS. The Halloween Bash has live music from The Dick Beldings plus a DJ, and the two event listings disagree about which stage the band plays. Visit McKinney calls it family-friendly, and the Beer Hall afterparty is 21+ after 10 p.m.

There's a second ghost-story option that same weekend. Chestnut Square's Haunted Trolley Tour runs Friday, Oct. 23, and Saturday, Oct. 24. It's an evening trolley ride through downtown with Annie of the Historified podcast telling local ghost stories and history. Times vary by date. A Kids Out & About listing shows tickets at $20 and says the tour is open to all ages, so it fits families with kids younger than the museum's 12-and-up limit. If you'd rather skip the costumes, the downtown calendar also lists Acoustic Evenings at the Gallery at Last Art Gallery that Saturday.

Sunday keeps going, at a smaller scale

On Sunday, Oct. 25, TUPPS hosts a free Trunk or Treat on its Outdoor Stage & Lawn from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Kids collect treats from decorated cars, and there are games too. Animal Rescue Crusade will take themed pet and family photos for donations, and the Grain Room will serve food, including kids' meals. Registration is only for people bringing a car or sponsoring, not for guests.

Two blocks from the square, the Heard-Craig Carriage House at 205 W. Hunt St. offers something quieter. The Faces of Frankenstein is a free art-history talk from 2 to 3 p.m. Guest lecturer Christabella Escandon will cover how artists have depicted Mary Shelley's monster over the years. It overlaps with Trunk or Treat, so if your household wants both, split up or pick one.

What's left for Oct. 31

On Halloween itself, the downtown calendar thins out to two events, and both are aimed at adults.

The McKinney Spooktacular Brews and Boos Walk runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. across Historic Downtown McKinney. Ticket holders get a tasting cup and a map to about 20 local shops pouring craft beer or spirits. The ticket price on Eventbrite doesn't match the price on the organizer's own page, so check the listing before you buy.

At night, Harvest at The Masonic, 215 N. Kentucky St., hosts a free Enchanted Halloween Party starting at 5 p.m. and running to about midnight. The Crowes play from 7:30 p.m. until the end of the night, there's a featured Halloween drink, and a costume contest with cash prizes starts at 11 p.m. Plan your costume around the listing's rules, which say no masks and no weapons, including props like swords and guns.

The farmers market is still open that morning from 8 a.m. to noon, since Chestnut Square runs it every Saturday through December, though nothing special is listed for Halloween. If you're looking for a downtown Halloween event with kids, costumes and a crowd, it falls on Oct. 24 and 25.

Halloween on the square is one of the details that makes a downtown address what it is: a free festival a short walk away, a ghost tour in the county's old history museum, a Sunday trunk-or-treat on a brewery lawn. If you live near the square and are wondering what that walkability means for your home's value, Weidler Group can walk you through it. Sell a Lifestyle: request your home valuation.
